Private hotel, conference centre and temporary summer residence for senior directors of a Swedish multi-national corporation. The complex forms the heart of an exclusive recreational property consisting of an island and part of the peninsula of Hackholmssund to which it is connected by a small bridge. The setting in the Malar lake west of Stockholm is of exceptional natural beauty.

The dominant concept of the project was the desire to harmonise with and integrate into the natural setting, creating an atmosphere more akin to an old manor house or stately home than a modern hotel.

The brief required two houses (one new, the other reconstructed from an existing property) which could successfully be converted or combined for alternating functions of hotel, conference centre or luxurious private residence to meet the most demanding contemporary standards.
